Our Pet Patients
How important are pets to people? Fluffy helped to rehabilitate her owner and saved the family from lead poisoning! At the suggestion of a rehabilition therapist, a grandfather who had lost the will to live after suffering a leg amputation was given a cat. Fluffy restored her owner's positive outlook and the grandfather returned home to his son and grandchildren.
Later, Fluffy exhibited signs of dizziness, deafness, and blindness. A trip to the vet identified the problem as lead poisoning. As it turned out, the rented home the pet
owners live in was built before 1987 and, as such, the paint
and pipes were lead based and extremely toxic to people
as well as pets. A happy ending followed. The pet owners and Help A Pet split the $700 cost de-tox Fluffy and the owners of the home took care of removing the lead from the house
"Words cannot express the gratitude we feel. Your financial assistance has made Fluffy's recovery possible. Gene's (the grandfather) outlook
has made drastic improvements since Fluffy came home. He has been very attached to Fluffy since his amputation two years ago. Fluffy has sometimes been his only reason for trying to improve his own health. We honestly feel
that your organization also helped Gene's life, not just
Fluffy's. His health issues are many and Fluffy's always
been able to be that companion he needs. Thank you again
to everyone!
